Day 1 - Sat: Depart U.S. for London
Depart U.S. on your overnight flight to London. Sit back and relax as you travel to start your vacation.
Day 2 - Sun: London at Leisure
Welcome to London! After immigration and baggage claim, take an independent coach transfer to your Kensington hotel. For the balance of the day you are free to rest after your journey or explore London. There’s no shortage of attractions within easy reach of your hotel. In the evening enjoy a welcome drink with your guide and fellow travelers and dine in your hotel. (D)
Day 3 - Mon: Tower of London & City Sights
This morning travel along well-known streets in central London to see some of the capital’s famous landmarks. Visit the Tower of London to view the magnificent Crown Jewels and see Beefeaters and ravens. Learn about the many people, including royalty, who were imprisoned here. Spend the afternoon and evening on your own to sightsee, shop, dine or see a West End show. (CB)
Day 4 - Tue: Cambridge & York
Drive north to visit the university town of Cambridge. Stop to see some of the more important colleges, including King’s College, set along the banks of the River Cam. Head north to York to take a walking tour through this ancient town. Stroll along narrow streets and past medieval houses. The stately York Minster, with towers and stained glass, is the highlight of the walk. Continue your journey through Yorkshire to your lovely manor house hotel in Guisborough. (CB, D)
Day 5 - Wed: Alnwick Castle & Abbotsford House
Head north through Newcastle-on-Tyne to visit Alnwick Castle, home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. The castle was used in some of the Harry Potter movies and you will see the priceless collections of china, furnishings and paintings. Walk through the grounds, which were designed by Capability Brown. Drive through the Borders to visit Abbotsford House, Sir Walter Scott’s home, where he wrote most of his novels. Drive to Edinburgh for an introduction to Scottish culture and food at a traditional cabaret. (B, D)
Day 6 - Thu: Edinburgh Highlights
Discover Scotland’s capital on a tour around the city center. See Princes Street, which divides the elegant 200-year-old Georgian “New Town” from the compact medieval city. Tour the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official Scottish residence of the Queen. At the other end of the Royal Mile, visit Edinburgh Castle to see the Crown Jewels of Scotland and the Stone of Destiny. The afternoon and evening are free. On departures from August 6 to 20, experience the Military Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle. (B)
Day 7 - Fri: Departure Day
Your tour ends at Edinburgh Airport early this morning to allow you to check in for your return flight to the United States. (B) |
