Day 1 Sun. BOARD YOUR OVERNIGHT TRANSATLANTIC FLIGHT.
Day 2 Mon. ARRIVAL IN SHANNON, IRELAND. TO LIMERICK.
After checking in at your city center hotel, the rest of the day is free to start exploring. Your tour director will have plenty of suggestions for things to do and see.
Day 3 Tue. LIMERICK-DUBLIN.
Enjoy the first of your Irish highlights this morning taking the scenic route via the spectacular Cliffs of Moher and then The Burren on the way to the port city of Galway on its lovely bay. Hear about the infamous Lynch Stone commemorating the day Mayor James Lynch Fitzstephen hanged his son for murder. Continue via Athlone before arrival in Dublin with an optional dinner excursion suggestion for this evening. (FB)
Day 4 Wed. DUBLIN.
A day in the “Fair City” starts off with an orientation drive through Eire’s capital and includes statue-lined O’Connell Street, elegant Georgian squares, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The rest of the day is free to enjoy Dublin at leisure. Celebrate the evening in real style at an optional Irish dinner and cabaret show. (FB)
Day 5 Thu. DUBLIN-KILLARNEY.
This morning take time for a visit to historic Kilkenny, one of Ireland’s most attractive small cities. The Rock of Cashel, where St. Patrick preached, is another milestone on the route to Blarney, renowned for its magical Stone of Eloquence. Maybe take in a visit to the castle or shop for fine Waterford Crystal. The next two nights are spent at the popular lakeside resort of Killarney. (FB,D)
Day 6 Fri. KILLARNEY. RING OF KERRY EXCURSION.
At Killorglin join the road known as the “Ring of Kerry” for a 100-mile coastal panoramic drive: sparkling seascapes, mountains dotted with brightly colored farmhouses, winding lanes bordered with subtropical vegetation and spectacular views of the Lakes of Killarney from Ladies View. Back in Killarney, a special optional adventure: take a horse-drawn jaunting car along the national park lakeshore for pictures of Ross Castle. Tonight enjoy the optional dinner outing to Tralee and a performance at Siamsa Tire, Ireland’s National Folk Theatre. (FB)
Day 7 Sat. KILLARNEY-ENNIS.
Follow the road to Dingle on its pretty peninsula, passing miles of sandy beaches, setting for the film Ryan’s Daughter. Via Tralee, the county town of Kerry, and Listowel, head for Tarbert and the ferry across the Shannon estuary to Killimer and the pretty market town of Ennis, Clare’s county town. Celebrate your Irish Highlights vacation with an optional banquet at Knappogue Castle. (FB)
