Day 1 Fly to CANCUN, MEXICO. Rooms are available for check in.
Cancun, Mexico. Explore the breathtaking natural beauty and 1,000-year history of this Mexican resort city. Cancun provides the splendors the Caribbean is known for—clear turquoise waters and white sand beaches, year round sunshine, varied water sports, great entertainment and superb dining. Placed on the east coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, it’s made up of lagoons and coral reefs, including the rarer black coral. Cancun means “golden snake” in Mayan and it is the ideal gateway to splendid Mayan ruins spread throughout the Yucatan. During your stay, you’ll visit CHICHEN-ITZA, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful Mayan settlements ever discovered. The ancient city extends over a radius of six square miles. Originally built between 600 and 900 AD, it was deserted and then re-established sometime in the 11th and 12th centuries, some suggest by the Toltecs, a native Central American people. See the GREAT BALL COURT, the largest of the 22 within the complex and site of many human sacrifices; EL CASTILLO (Pyramid of Kukulcan), an impressive building dedicated to the high priest; CENOTE SAGRADO, a sacred well once filled with precious treasures offered to the gods; and TULUM and XEL-HA. Tulum is a large coastal fort built in 1200 AD during the decline of the Mayan civilization. The ultimate beauty of Tulum is its location on rocky outcroppings, providing spectacular views of the Caribbean and the sandy beaches below. Highlights are the EL CASTILLO, a tower perched along the edge of the cliffs with its back wall facing the sea; TEMPLE OF THE DESCENDING GOD, showing a relief of the “diving god;” and the TEMPLE OF THE FRESCOES, the most impressive part of the ruins containing frescoes that have withstood the ravages of time. Later, visit XEL-HA, the Mayan word for “water source,” the largest cove in the Mexican-Caribbean Sea and one of the most beautiful. Today it functions as an ecological park, offering snorkeling, diving, and swimming. Visitors can explore the jungle either by foot or aboard a small train to view some of the many grottos, cenotes, and flora and fauna (like macaws and giant iguanas). ISLA MUJERES, (“Island of Women”) is located eight miles from Cancun. Board the ferry to cross Bahia de Mujeres (“Bay of Women”). The small fishing village offers calm and tranquility. Day 3 CANCUN.

Day 5 CANCUN.
Excursions to Tulum, the only Mayan settlement on the coast, and Xel-Ha, the largest cove on the Mexican-Caribben Sea. (B)

Another full day at leisure for your own explorations. (B)
Day 7 CANCUN.
Excursion to Isla Mujeres, a small fishing village located just eight miles off the coast of Cancun. (B,L)
